6 Theories About WHY Jason Blossom Was Murdered on 'Riverdale'
The finale of Riverdale's first season is right around the corner, and we're officially on the precipice of knowing all the details surrounding the murder of Jason Blossom once and for all. But with one more episode to watch and a second season already booked (and the producer's confirmation that there will be another major mystery in the works), it leaves us all wondering: what's left to uncover?
The fans, of course, have had lots of theories over the course of the show's first season. Lots of theories, and they range from the idea that Archie was actually the one who was meant to be killed (hence his removed storyline) to the killer being Archie's DOG, which left fans with a lot to ponder. While the penultimate episode that aired on May 4 may have revealed who killed Jason, we still don't know WHY. And seeing how there's still one more episode, we're hoping one of these theories are close. After all, we know anything can happen in Riverdale, a town where nothing is ever as it seems.
That's why we took the liberty of compiling the best Riverdale fan theories to date: from the totally out there to the ones that, well, may just make sense. The countdown begins to when we find out for sure.
1/7It was all Jughead's dream.
Camila Mendes once said that Cole told her about a theory he saw in which someone argued that the entire story was just a figment of Jughead's imagination, or part of the book he was writing. Maybe he'll wake up tomorrow during the finale?
2/7It was Archie's DOG.
KJ Apa once joked that he thought Archie's dog was the culprit. We think we can rule this one out. But then again, don't rule out some weird link between Vegas the dog and the Blossom family.
3/7The plot is intentionally misleading us.
One Redditor's theory argued that it's the Lodge family who was also responsible for the whole ordeal and that it's all traceable to the fact that they want better real estate opportunities. But, as TV Guide posits, what if Jason was trying to sell the Blossom family secrets to Hiram Lodge? Perhaps, Hiram is still partly responsible...
4/7Archie was the one who was supposed to be killed.
According to another fan theory on Reddit, Archie was actually the character that was meant to be killed but just as the cast claims the writers didn't know who the real murderer was until the very end, they switched the plot line and then reintegrated the character of Archie into the story, which explains why he seems removed from the other characters' intimate web of secrets and drama. So maybe Jason's murder was a complete accident?
5/7There's more than one killer.
One Refinery 29 theory argues that it would only make sense if more than one person was involved in his disappearance and then Jason's murder, given that there was an entire week between when he went missing and when he was killed. So perhaps there's more to expect killer-wise from the finale? Maybe there's an accomplice or a buyer involved? After all, money seems to be pretty important to all the Riverdale big-wigs...

6/7Clifford just couldn't deal.
(Spoiler alert if you haven't watched the second to last episode!) We already know from the penultimate episode that Clifford did indeed shoot his own son, but we're still not entirely clear why. Another theory currently floating around is that after Jason made his desire to cut ties with the Blossom name clear, an upset Clifford went full-on rage that his heir-apparent was turning his back on their maple syrup business. TBH, we'd put our money on this one but really, who knows?
