Pretty Little Liars is a TV show about secrets – after all, the entire plot is centered around the idea that “two can keep a secret, if one of them is dead.” It would make sense that the series certainly has some secrets of its own. Despite the fact that the show is ending in 2017 (sob), there’s still plenty of time to theorize about the final season’s inevitable plot twists and big reveals. But the secrets of PLL go beyond the mystery of “A”’s identity; in fact, there are some mysterious gems about the series’s production itself. 1/15Aria’s bedroom and Spencer’s bedroom are connected.
Well, sort of. They’re back-to-back in the set, so if you walk through Aria’s bedroom door, you’d end up inside Spencer’s bedroom. Whoa.
2/15And speaking of the set, it might look familiar.
Those wide shots of Rosewood are done on the same set that is used for Gilmore Girls. Yep. Rosewood = Stars Hollow.
3/15PLL is one of the most-tweeted about shows of our time.
In fact, the 2014 winter premiere of PLL garnered more than 30,000 tweets per minute. Not even “A” could type that fast.
4/15Jenna almost played Spencer.
Actress Tammin Sursok, who plays Jenna, originally auditioned for the role of Spencer Hastings.

Shay Mitchell also originally auditioned for the role of Spencer. Seems like everyone wanted to be Spencer Hastings – we think Spencer would probably agree with this herself.

Fictional Rosewood, PA is actually based off of a town called Rosemont, PA — a suburb not far from Philadelphia.
8/15PLL showrunner I. Marlene King shows up in one episode.
Her name, that is. In Season 2, when the waitress refers to “A” as “Pretty Eyes,” we see her nametag. It shows the name “Marlene,” paying homage to the show’s creator.
9/15Rosewood High School and Rosewood Courthouse are the same building.
The same building is used for scenes in school and scenes in court – they just film different sides, depending on what is happening.
10/15Ezra’s name is a blend of two famous literary figures.
His first name is a reference to the poet Ezra Pound, and his last name is a nod to F. Scott Fitzgerald.
11/15Sharpay from High School Musical almost became a Liar.
Actress Ashley Tisdale was offered an audition to be on PLL, but she turned it down to audition for Hellcats. We could totally see her attending Rosewood High with the other Liars.
12/15Ashley Benson was the one who recommended the show’s theme song.
The theme is called “Secret,” and it’s by The Pierces. It is definitely the perfect song for the show, and Ashley Benson knew it too. It was originally heard in an episode of Gossip Girl.

It’s no secret that PLL loves anagrams – remember that whole “Chandeliers ritual / Sisters launched lair” thing? Turns out that Ali’s last name – DiLaurentis – is an anagram in and of itself, spelling out the phrase “liars united.” Sounds about right.
14/15And speaking of Ali – Sasha Pieterse was only 12 when she was cast in the role.
And Troian Bellisario, who plays Spencer, was 25. They were both playing 16-year-olds.

Lucy once said that if she had to pick a PLL character to date in real life, she’d go with Toby. Her reasoning? “He’s got the whole mysterious thing going on, and he’s quiet but still really sexy. That would be my type.” Same, TBH.
