Heather Morris is continuing to honor the legacy left behind by her former Glee co-star, Naya Rivera.
News of Naya’s passing hit both Hollywood and fans hard earlier this month. The 33-year-old was pronounced dead on July 13, following her disappearance while visiting California’s Lake Piru. In the wake of the tragic news, countless celebrities and fans took to social media to express their grief and sorrow, including several members of Naya’s Glee family.
Heather, who portrayed Naya’s on-screen wife on the Fox series, initially shared that she was “taking a moment to honor [her] grief.” But on Friday, July 17, the actor posted two tributes to her late friend, the first of which featured their respective children. “We started out as the closest friends and then like all new things, we went through a bit of a rocky phase,” Heather wrote. “However, we stuck by each other’s side and created the most beautiful friendship built out of love and understanding.”
The actor went on to say that the two friends rarely took photos together, because they “mutually hated taking pictures” — but Heather remains in possession of several photos of Naya’s son Josey playing with her two little boys. “I’m showing the world a photo of our little goof balls for you, because I know that meant more than anything and they remind me of you and I.”
Her powerful note also detailed everything she learned from her longtime friendship with Naya. “You constantly taught me lessons about grief, about beauty and poise, about being strong, resilient and about not giving a f*ck,” Heather wrote, adding: “Yet, the utmost important lesson I learned most of all from you was being a consistent and loving friend. You were the first to check in, the first to ask questions, the first to listen..you cherished our friendship and I never took that for granted.” The actor ended her tribute by writing, “I speak to you everyday because I know you’re still with me and even though I’m feeling greedy that we don’t get more time together, I cherish every moment we had and hold it close to my heart.”
