2021's sci-fi epic Dune is the gift that keeps on giving: great acting, great fashion, and even great friendship. In a new interview with Variety, Timothée Chalamet declared that his friendship with his Dune co-star Zendaya has reached sibling level, calling the starlet his “sister.”

Timothée is Variety's latest cover star, sharing the front page with his Bones and All castmate Taylor Russell and the film's director Luca Guadagnino. (Bones and All, a cannibal road trip love story, will be released everywhere on November 23.) While speaking to the outlet, he teased his upcoming appearances in multiple projects including Willy Wonka and Dune 2.

When opening up about the highly anticipated sequel, he filled fans with hope that Zendaya would play a more prominent role than in the first film as the desert warrior Chani. “She hasn’t wrapped yet… and it’s amazing," Timothée said. "She’s bringing exactly what she brought to the first one — which was incredible — but in greater abundance.”

The 26-year-old actor went on to share just how deep his bond with Zendaya is, calling her family. “She's really become a sister. I’m so grateful to count her as a partner and a sister and a friend," he said. “An also to share stories about how amazing it is to work with Luca, because we worked with him back to back on wildly different projects.”

The Bones and All director — who first directed Timothée Chalamet in the 2017 film Call Me by Your Name — has directed Zendaya in the forthcoming sports drama Challengers, due for release next year.

This isn’t the first time that Timmy and Z have fondly spoken about their friendship. In a 2021 interview with E! News, Zendaya opened up about feeling a little nervous walking onto the set of Dune. The Euphoria star said it was Timothée who helped make the set a welcoming environment. During the Dune press run she also told Entertainment Weekly that she got “very close with Timothée” early on in the filming process. “We were like, 'Oh, this is great,” recalled Zendaya. “We're gonna be besties, I can tell.”

Now that Timothée has assured us that we'll be seeing more of Zendaya in Dune 2 (since she only got seven minutes of screen time in the first installment), we're counting down the days until their next press run together — more playful banter and iconic red carpet looks, please!
