Ariana Grande knows a thing or two about memes, and she's putting her knowledge to good use with what might just be the best piece of promo we have gotten so far for Wicked.

If you've spent some time on the internet over the last six years, then you've probably come across the “Wicked Witch of the East, bro!” viral video, but if you have not, allow us to quickly recap it for you.

Back in 2018, before shorts and TikTok, YouTube user Austin Parrish uploaded a half-a-minute video of two friends, called Matt and Doug, debating (or, more like, arguing) over whether Glinda the Good Witch is a princess. The video, which you can watch below, immediately became viral, racking up millions of views and becoming a soundbite and copypasta that has stood the test of time.

“Hold on, hold on, hold on. Her sister was a witch, right? And what was her sister? A princess, the Wicked Witch of the East, bro! You're gonna look at me, and you're gonna tell me that I'm wrong? Am I wrong? She wore a crown, and she came down in a bubble, Doug. Grow up, bro, grow up,” Matt famously proclaims in the video.

To celebrate her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Ariana Grande, who plays Glinda in the upcoming Wicked movies, unearthed the video, perfectly lip-syncing to the viral soundbite backstage with the host — while wearing a Glinda-pink dress, of course. The original video famously ends with Doug asking Matt to “get educated,” and Grande also knows a thing or two about that. Just a day before her appearance on Fallon, the star showed off her Glinda knowledge by correcting the official Wicked account after it posted the incorrect lyrics to Glinda's hit song “Popular.”

Though it's going to be hard to top the recreation of the meme, the Wicked promo tour is far from over. The cast has recently held premieres in Sydney, Mexico City, and Los Angeles, and they'll soon jet off to London for a final stop before the first movie premieres on November 22, 2024.
